Turia Pitt has revealed the words her husband uttered to doctors when they offered him the chance to say his goodbyes after she was caught in a wildfire whilst completing an ultramarathon in 2011.
Michael Hoskin was told Turia, then 24, ‘might not live’ and was offered the chance to see her one last time before doctors warned she didn’t look like the woman he knew.
He was hesitant to see her, badly burned, with a ‘shaved head the size of a pumpkin’, but instead made a promise.
The mining engineer suffered burns to 65 percent of her body after being caught in the fast-moving grass fire in the Kimberly during her ultramarathon.
‘If she survives, I’ll marry her,’ he told doctors, according to Turia’s recent blog post.
